Italy Quake: PM Renzi Says Every Family Will Be Taken Care Of

The combination of old buildings and the fault lines that Italy sits on led to widespread devastation.

A strong 6.2 magnitude earthquake brought down buildings in central Italy early on Wednesday, trapping residents and sending others fleeing into the streets.

Despite rescue teams worked though the night to find survivors under the rubble, the death toll rose to 159. Earlier, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi had confirmed that at least 120 people had been killed in the quake.

With 368 people injured, some critically, and an unknown number trapped under the rubble, the civil protection department warned that the death toll could climb higher. Read the full story here.
