‘The Winter Rose’ by Sailesh Singhania gave us a jacket that goes with the sari. Inspired by erstwhile princesses of India, the collection that was unveiled at Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2017 has saris teamed with overcoats, trenches and peacoats.

Actor Radhika Apte was seen wearing a flowing cape paired with a gold brocade lehenga skirt.

Meanwhile, Indigene, that does a lot of sustainable fashion, showcased upcycled fashion scraps, in part a tribute to Indian handwoven fabrics, and in part an effort to raise awareness about fashion waste.

Utilising waste fabrics and scraps, Indian designers Ruchi Tripathi and Jaya Bhatt used khadi silks and Indian cottons to create kimono style shirts, drop waist dresses, floppy wide pants and pleated skirts. They also presented quirky accessories like skull caps and thick woolen socks as a part of their winter ensemble

While Indian designer Sayantan Sarkar mixed men's and womenswear for his ‘Children of War’ collection, showing constructed jackets and flowing silhouettes with a military feel.

"We've used khadi in many shows where it's flowy, it's beautiful, it's soft. What if Khadi actually becomes something like denim?,” asked Sarkar. "We can develop a lot of possibilities with our handlooms, it's just that we need to keep exploring. So this is just a part of an exploration."
