The body of the second missing Navy officer, Lt. Abhinay Nagori was today recovered from the fuselage of the ill-fated Dornier Aircraft which crashed during a training sortie off the coast of Goa Tuesday night.
With the recovery of the young officer’s body, which is being taken to Goa, the Navy has called off its search and rescue operation launched after the maritime surveillance aircraft crashed on Tuesday night.
The body of the female observer, Lt. Kiran Shekhawat, the other officer who was recovered on Thursday.
The Indian Navy’s Dornier maritime surveillance aircraft they were flying on, crashed about 25 nautical miles south-west off Goa on Tuesday night.
The pilot, Commander K. Joshi, was rescued by a fishing boat soon after the crash.
The search and rescue operation was launched after authorities lost contact with the aircraft at 10:08 pm on Tuesday night.
The Indian Navy has pressed 12 ships along with 4 planes into action to locate the two missing personnel.
The first lot of debris from the crash was picked up by naval ships off the coast of Goa on Wednesday morning. The Indian Navy later reported that it had detected a “large metallic object” which was confirmed to be the fuselage of the aircraft.
The cause of the accident is not yet known.
