India’s wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt may get a gold medal for the 2012 Olympic Games since the gold medallist of Dutt’s event – 60kg Freestyle has reportedly failed a dope test.

However, the United World Wrestling has not confirmed Toghrul Asgarov failing a dope test.

Even if the UWW confirms that the 2012 Olympics gold medallist Asgarov has tested positive for dope, Yogeshwar still may not get the gold medal.

The wrestler’s bronze medal got upgraded to silver because he lost to the Russian, but the other bronze medallist in the event, Coleman Scott of USA, stayed a bronze medallist because he lost to the eventual champion in the semifinals.

So, if the gold medallist fails the dope test, then Coleman may be given the gold medal.

It’s such a peculiar situation that nobody seems to be sure about the rules. The wrestling fans and the grapplers will have to wait for the IOC and United World Wrestling’s final decision on who would eventually be the gold medal awardee.
