Supporters of Hardik Patel, the leader of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti, who was arrested during a crackdown on the Patel rally on Tuesday, resorted to violence in Ahmedabad, Surat and Rajkot. The protesters torched several buildings and buses and vandalised bus stands.
Although Hardik was released within an hour of his arrest, he has called for a statewide bandh on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Anandiben Patel has ordered an inquiry into the police action taken at Tuesday’s Patel rally. She has also appealed to the people to maintain peace.
