Jab Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya – she taught us to be fearless in love. She’s the inimitable legend Lata Mangeshkar.
For generations, her voice has been synonymous with Hindi film music. Be it Waheeda Rehman in Guide, Jaya Bachchan in Abhimaan or Kajol in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, whenever they lip synced to Lata Didi’s voice, the song became a timeless classic.
On her birthday, The Quint did a little social experiment, actually a musical experiment, where we introduced post-2010-born kids to her music. We wanted to see how they react and at the same time familiarise them with her songs, which stand like evergreen gems in the cacophony of today’s Bollywood numbers.
And how did it go? Well, let’s just say Didi’s magical voice never fails to cast a spell.
For many more to come – Happy Birthday Lata Didi!
