Two men armed with knives took several people hostage, including an 84-year-old priest and two nuns in a church in Rouen, France on Tuesday.

Both the attackers were neutralised by the police soon after the hostage situation took place. A priest who had been taken hostage was also killed, with Police saying his throat seemed to be slashed.

This attack comes just a fortnight after Bastille Day celebrations in Nice turned bloody with a driver mowing down swathes of people, ever since which France has been in an extended state of Emergency.

Pope Francis condemned the “barbarous killing” of the priest, saying he was horrified by the news of the attack.
