Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmaavat finally hit theatres on 25 January. Anyone who has watched the film is asking just one question - why did Karni Sena not want people to watch this film? The period drama in fact validates the honour and upholds the valour of the Rajput community and guess what? There are no scenes between Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji, the main point of protest, something Bhansali has repeatedly mentioned.

Violence continued even after the Supreme Court lifted ban on the release of the film and now even though the film released in 4,000 screens across the country, protests by some Rajput outfits continue.

On the day of the release, Deepika Padukone said:

Padmaavat has been through so much. To see it finally releasing and the reaction it is getting is extremely overwhelming... On behalf of the entire crew, we want to thank you for being so supportive... It’s time for us to celebrate and see the film do wonders at the box office. This time, I am excited about the box office because it is going to be earth-shattering.”
