Is the army being politicised? Are statements made by political leaders about slain CRPF jawans giving the families of these jawans any justice? The Quint reached the home of martyr Pintu Singh in Bihar's Beghusarai to speak to them.

Anju Singh, Pintu Singh's wife says, “My child asks me ‘when will papa come? I want to hug him,’ she says." Speaking on martyrs being mentioned in political speeches, Mithilesh Singh, Pintu Singh's brother says that the respect which should be given to a martyr is unfortunately not given.

“Politics should not be done in the name of a martyr. The one who does so is highly guilty. He is the biggest culprit.”

Pintu Singh was killed on 1 March 2019 in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara, in an encounter which took place between CRPF jawans and terrorists. Anju Singh is Pintu Singh's wife and she believes that the government has no idea of the pain suffered by the families of martyred CRPF jawans.

“Only someone who loses their loved one are aware of the pain. The government has no clue about the pain. This is because no leader’s son brother or husband goes to the army. Only the poor or common man goes to the army.”

Singh's house is made of thatch and mud. Despite being educated, he was decided to be a CRPF jawan to defend the country. But no political leader from any state was present to pay tributes when Pintu Singh's body reached Patna. Watch the full video here.
