As the world is getting into festive mood for the upcoming Christmas season, people in Peru's capital city Lima in South America, seem to be of the view that the festival should be celebrated as much with pets as with fellow humans.

The 'Pet Noel 2016' carnival, held in the San Isidro municipality of Lima on Sunday, was precisely about this, as a packed audience amusingly watched more than 80 pets being strutted around on a stage dressed in fancy Christmas-themed costumes.

And it was not just the usual dogs as pets, people also got rabbits and even a turtle out of their homes – all looking cuter than ever!

What more, the carnival also came with a social message – of the importance of being sensitive towards pets, and loving them as part of the family.

Now we can only wish initiatives such as these are taken up in our country too – where festivals are only a nuisance for the animals because of all the fireworks.
