Some inmates at a North Texas jail broke out of a cell to help save an armed guard after they saw him slump and lose consciousness.
WFAA-TV reports the jailer continues to recover from an apparent heart attack.
Parker County sheriff’s Capt. Mark Arnett says he believes the prisoners helped save the guard’s life.
Surveillance video from a court’s building in Weatherford showed part of the June 23 incident. Some inmates were in a basement holding cell when the lone guard slumped and fell. The inmates yelled for help, banged on doors and broke through the cell door.
The sheriff’s deputies, who were upstairs, responded to the commotion.
Paramedics helped the jailer as deputies put the inmates back into the cell. WFAA reported Friday that the holding cell has since been reinforced.
