Even as the flood situation in Assam remains grim with over 16 lakh people affected across 20 districts, flood waters have also created havoc for jawans of the Border Security Force (BSF). Posted at outposts close to the Bangladesh border in the state’s Dhubri district, their camps are submerged under water, making the task of keeping out infiltrators extremely difficult.

At the Hathichar BSF camp, boats are now the only way of communication even within the camp. With waist-deep water, even daily chores like procuring food have become a problem.
