Batti Gul Meter Chalu is directed by Shree Narayan Singh, who helmed the Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.

Actor Shahid Kapoor says that he loves films which are not meaningless but at the same time is entertaining. His forthcoming film Batti Gul Meter Chalu is an a very mainstream film which has elements of fun, humour and revolves around an important issue.

While Shraddha Kapoor thinks she is extremely lucky to be part of this film which gives a message to people while entertaining them, Yami Gautam who plays a lawyer in the film confesses that she first read about the film in a news paper and wished she was a part of it. Well, her wish was granted.

Shraddha and Shahid Kapoor have shot for the film in a small town in Uttarakhand called Tehri and had to work really hard to pick the Kumaoni dialect. The characters are seen speaking Kumaoni in the film. So when we asked them to give us a crash course, they were more than willing. At the same time, Yami who is from Himachal, taught us her own native dialect. The actors couldn’t stop talking about Tehri which clearly stole their hearts.

Starring Shahid and Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam, the film is a social comedy-drama with a satirical take on India’s power-cuts and faulty billing systems. The movie, which is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, is all set to release on 21 September 2018.
