A 25-year-old female elephant collapsed near Narsipuram forest, Coimbatore and died. The veterinary doctor cited internal bleeding as the possible cause of her death, however, postmortem results are awaited to confirm the actual reason.
The elephant was traveling with her three-year-old cal, who tried desperately to wake her up. The video shows the baby elephant not letting anyone near his mother.
Forest Department officials finally managed to separate the calf from the elephant after 24 hours, as he refused leave his mother. The District Forest Officer said that such incidents are common occurrence. The calf was taken 3 kms away from where his mother died, and will be left in the care of other elephants.
