At 57, Barbie Gets a Major Makeover: Newer Skintones and Bodytypes

At 57, Barbie is getting a major makeover.

Barbie will also be more diverse, coming in seven skin tones, 22 eye colours and 24 hairstyles.

The manufacturer of the doll, Mattel Inc., has been searching for ways to recharge sales of Barbie, which fell four percent in the most recent quarter on girl’s ‘want lists’, that increasingly include technology items such iPads.

The doll had changed in some ways already. New skin tones and looks were added last year.

The new versions will begin arriving on US store shelves in March and will roll out globally after that.
