Oscar award winning director Ang Lee is back with Gemini Man and this time he has not one but two Will Smith in his film. If you have watched his films you will know he is not a regular filmmaker. He is breaking technological boundaries once again. After Life of Pi he has now gone to create for the very first time ever a CGI human using motion capture effect. So, Gemini Man is not only a double treat as you get to see not one but two Will Smith, you will also witness a battle between 51-year-old Smith and his 23-year-old CGI self.

But did you know that in real life he is not so technologically equipped?

While speaking to The Quint Ang Lee said,

I am a low tech person. I am not a technical person at all. Even like on an iPhone I can only call or maybe I can receive phone call. I barely can do email. I am a very low tech person but I am really greedy in perceiving new things and images. I think if images take technology to perform then somebody will help me figure out and I’ll tell him what I like to see.

There’s a scene shot in a catacomb where we see Will Smith and his younger CGI self fighting it out. Ang Lee took nine months to complete the scene after the shoot. He tells us exactly why it took so long.

He says, “A big part of it has to be animated because Junior, the young Will Smith doesn't exist and there are certain things we would not let even old Will Smith do. It was too dangerous. Certainly won't punch his face or press his face across the wall, so a lot of replacements. While we have the excuse to replace most part of the stonework. I just had this ambition to do more visceral fight because choreographed fight doesn't feel visceral.”

When asked if he had an advice for 23-year-old Ang Lee, he laughs and says, “I would say wake up. I was a dreamer, I was spaced out, I wasted a lot of time. I aim to be more diligent, more pragmatic.”
