At the fifth edition of the Indian Screenwriters Conference, Aamir Khan gave young and aspiring writers tips on how to survive the big bad world of Bollywood to see their work through. Not only is Aamir one of the few A-listers who believes that a script makes or breaks a film, he also hopes to ensure that writing talent gets more bargaining power and respect for their work. The Secret Superstar actor talks extensively about why he doesn't believe in doing films that are written for him, or for that matter charging a hefty fee before his films hit theatres.
Aamir Khan spoke candidly to a room full of writers while announcing the second edition of India's biggest script contest, Cinestaan India Storytellers Script Contest.
He is a writer’s dream because if he’s convinced by a film’s script, he’ll find a way to make it and successfully so. And for that reason he shies away from taking credit for his consistent success at the box office too. For this megastar, a script is not only sacrosanct, but the true star of the show.
So if you’re a writer waiting for a miraculous break in Bollywood, here’s why Aamir will give you hope and show you the mirror too.
