The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) in Kerala has applied to Guinness Records with a claim that Dakshayani, the elephant under its care is the world’s oldest living elephant. Currently, the world’s oldest documented elephant is an 85-year-old in Taiwan.

TDB is known to own 33 elephants in the state. The president of the organisation Prayar Gopalakrishnan said that the elephant was gifted to TDB by the erstwhile royals of Travancore. He added that as a first step to enter the Guinness records – Dakshayani, the elephant is being honoured by issuing a special postal cover from the Kerala Circle Postal Services.
