Raja Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy sought an urgent hearing of Ayodhya dispute in a plea to the Supreme Court. In the plea, Swamy insisted on the immediate rebuilding of Ram Mandir at the site of the demolished Babri Masjid.
The SC asked Swamy to consult all the parties and inform it about the decision on 31 March. The SC bench headed by CJI Khehar suggested a settlement outside court.
“These are matters of religion. Is it possible to give a call? Why don’t you make an attempt to sort it out sitting across the table,” Live Law quoted the CJI as saying.
The court has asked Swamy to petition again on Friday next week.

The BJP said that a solution through friendly negotiations was the best way to solve the long-pending dispute.
This is a very good step by the apex court. Even the BJP has been encouraging solving the issue through negotiations. It is a very good step to solve the issue by sitting together and negotiating.PP Chaudhary, Minister of State for Law and Justice
However, another senior BJP leader, Subramanian Swamy, said that the Ramjanmabhoomi in Ayodhya should be used only for constructing the Ram temple.
Masjid can be built anywhere, Namaz can be read anywhere... it can be read on the street. The Ram Janmabhoomi is for the Ram Mandir and it should be used for the Ram temple only.Subramanian Swamy
In 2010, the Allahabad court had suggested a three-way division of the disputed land of Rama’s birthplace and Babri Masjid.
