Recently, a housing society in Navi Mumbai officially released a circular banning the renting of apartments in their compound to bachelors and spinsters — they were simply not allowed.

Such discrimination against unmarried, single working people is not unknown in the exorbitant City of Dreams, often clubbed with several removable layers of criteria such as diet, religion, occupation etc.

While no one can be coerced into renting private property to some or all people, this culture of renting actively punishes single, unmarried working adults of the city due to stereotypes of a “young, modern girl/boy”.

Why, exactly? What do these housing societies, and landlords and ladies think we will DO in their house?!
