On a day when the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan entered its second year, ministers of the NDA government came down to the streets to do their bit towards one of PM Modi’s key campaigns.
Speaking at a Swachh Bharat programme, in New Delhi, President Pranab Mukherjee urged every individual to participate in India’s largest cleanliness drive.
While Home Minister Rajnath Singh compared the initiative to a social revolution, Union Urban Minister, Venkiah Naidu invoked Mahatma Gandhi, whose famous remark “cleanliness in next to godliness” had inspired PM Modi to come up with the sanitation drive.
In keeping with Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a clean India, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was initiated in 2014 with the aim of completing total cleanliness by 2019.
