The first phase of Rahul Gandhi’s Mahayatra came to an end on Sunday. The Congress Vice President decided to take a two-day break for Eid.
On the last day of Phase 1, Rahul took the Narendra Modi government head-on during his rallies in Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur. In his address to the public, Rahul targeted the Modi government on the poor financial state of farmers, price of pulses and Modi’s foreign trips. He also took a dig at the Prime Minister for taking multiple selfies with top businesspeople and world leaders but not taking a single selfie with farmers.
In the first phase of the Mahayatra, Rahul conducted multiple roadshows and Khat Sabhas in an attempt to woo farmers. He also held roadshows in the urban areas in a bid to not alienate the urban middle-class voters.
Rahul also became the first member of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty to visit Ayodhya in 26 years. Before him, his father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had visited Ayodhya. No Gandhi had paid a visit there since the infamous Babri Mosque demolition.
