Around 8.5 Crore Calls Failed on 7 November: Reliance Jio Data

Around 8.5 crore out of over 30 crore call attempts by Reliance Jio users to other networks failed on 7 November.

Out of the 30 crore call attempts by subscribers of Reliance Jio to customers with networks of Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular’s respective networks, about 8.5 crore attempts failed on 7 November, according to the data published by Jio on its website. The failure occurred due to the ongoing points of interconnection (PoI) congestion.

However, the country’s top telcos have said that they have already released adequate interconnection capacity to help the Reliance Jio users to have a smooth functioning network.

According to the data given by Jio, the maximum call failures have taken place with Bharti Airtel network on 7 November. Out of the 13.81 crores call attempts, 4.74 crore calls failed to get through. And 26.7 per cent of the calls made to customers with Vodafone India’s network failed.

The network with the lowest call failure rate is the Idea Cellular network with 18.9 per cent.

Recently, Bharti Airtel had announced that it had provided a total 17,000 points of interconnection (PoI). It included an addition of 7,000 PoIs, which is enough to support 75 million Jio’s subscribers.

According to reports, Vodafone has provided enough number of points of interconnections (PoI), which is sufficient to support 50 million Jio subscribers.

The incumbent telcos have blamed Jio’s free welcome offer as a reason for the failure of the call attempts.

The Telecom Regulator Authority of India had recently suggested a penalty of Rs 3,050 crore on Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular for not providing sufficient PoIs to Reliance Jio.
