Twitter’s plans to add more users to its platform by focusing on markets with low connectivity. For this, the micro-blogging app launched its Lite version of the Android app recently.
On Monday, the company announced that it will be bringing the lighter version of the app to 21 more countries, including India, where the app is available via Google Play Store this week onwards. In total, the Twitter lite app is likely to be available in 45 countries in the coming months.
Twitter’s Android app called 'Twitter Lite' is launched for the purpose of using less mobile data to work.

Twitter Lite is similar to Facebook’s Lite version: low on style, but focused on reduced data consumption.
The app will be available for Android and iOS devices, as well as desktops.
What Twitter Lite Promises
- Size of the app - 1MB
- 30 percent faster launch time
- Reducing data usage by up to 70 percent
- Supports Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil and Marathi
The app will run on devices with Android 5.0 Marshmallow and later. It can be used on 2G and 3G networks.
The app has basic functions such as breaking news, sports scores and entertainment updates and options to view Timeline, Notifications, the Explore tab, Messages and to customise profile.
The microblogging firm has added a data-saver mode in the Lite version. The app’s interface is simple, and images appear blurred out by default.
