YouTube Music is the streaming app which has launched in India few weeks back. It lets you stream music in audio or video format, and most popular local languages in the country.
Users can even download the music and create an offline playlist which can streamed without using the internet. But did you know that YouTube Music offers another useful feature which works for all kinds of audio files?
Yes, the app can also be used to play files that are saved in your phone’s local storage. We weren’t aware of this feature and even YouTube didn’t give us any indication about it. But folks at Android Police were the first ones to spot it and luckily we were able to try it as well.
As you can see below, the steps to use YouTube Music to play phone’s audio content is simple.
How to Play Audio Files on YouTube Music
- Open any audio file saved on your phone
- Long press on the file and you’ll be asked to Open with
- Then you’ll see YouTube Music or any other music app to choose from
- Select YouTube Music, let the app access files on your phone
- Play audio files on YouTube Music in a bar avatar
YouTube Music has been priced at Rs 99 per month for users in India, and clearly YouTube has worked out some nifty features to appeal to consumers. Once you sign up for a premium plan, you get one month free trial to use, from which you can opt out anytime.
The option to use YouTube Music to play audio files isn’t available to everyone for now but expect an update to help you get that feature in the coming days.
YouTube Music has tough competition in the country, with the likes of Spotify, JioSaavn, Amazon Prime Music and Gaana available in the segment.
