Everyone knows what Xiaomi is and the phones they sell in India. Their Redmi Note 3 was a big sellout in 2016, for its sheer value offering.

Now in 2017, they’re back with an upgrade, Redmi Note 4, which carries forward the product’s heritage of being a big display device, with a long lasting battery in tow.

Pricing it at the same range as Redmi Note 3, most of us expect Redmi Note 4 to work in the same fashion. But how is the Redmi Note 4 different from its predecessor, and is this the upgrade we wanted? Let’s see what’s new about the new Redmi Note 4.

Old Wine, New Bottle

If Redmi Note 3 managed to give us a compact device with a long-lasting battery life, then with Redmi Note 4, Xiaomi has added a touch of sound aesthetics, giving it a design makeover for good. Redmi Note 4, for a price tag of Rs 9,999, looks attractive and is sure to catch every buyers eye.

In addition, Redmi Note 4 (at 8.4-mm) is relatively thinner than Redmi Note 3 (8.7-mm). However, it weighs heavier than its predecessor at 175 grams. The curved design edge at the bottom makes the Redmi Note 4 easier to hold and use.

And finally, the Redmi Note 4 gets a full black colour variant.

Improved Camera?

It was hard to say anything good about the camera of Redmi Note 3 but with the new Redmi Note 4, we’re hopeful that the snapper delivers crisp quality and detailed set of images.

It all depends on whether the MiUi running on Redmi Note 4 manages to scale up its processing capability, that gives us a camera-ready, reliable phone.

Storage Galore

Redmi Note 4 gets three storage variants, combined with the trio of RAM options at the same time.

Snapshot

Redmi Note 4 Variants:

  • 2GB RAM + 32GB storage = Rs 9,999
  • 3GB RAM + 32GB storage = Rs 10,999
  • 4GB RAM + 64GB storage = Rs 12,999

Lot’s to choose from, but our preference would be the 13K variant.

Same Battery, More Power

Not withstanding the marginal battery bump (50 mAh is negligible), Xiaomi claims that with the power-resourceful Snapdragon 625 SoC (Redmi Note 3 had a Snapdragon 650), the Redmi Note 4 will hold its fort longer than its predecessor. And going by our tests, those claims look legit.

Easy to Buy with Make in India?

At the launch event, Xiaomi said that the Redmi Note 4 will be made in India. Hopefully, this means the brand has more units in stock, to sell them online or through open sale.
