Xiaomi has announced its Mi5 flagship smartphone at the MWC 2016 and the good news is that it’s coming to India very soon. The phone succeeds Mi4 but what we really like about the Mi5 is its curved edges that is reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
The company claims to have absorbed minute design aesthetics to ensure that the phone is lighter (at 129 grams) than most other flagships on the market. The global launch event was presided over by Hugo Barra, Vice President – Global at Xiaomi, who made sure to highlight the flat nature of the camera sensor at the back.
The phone starts selling in China from March 1 onwards, prices starting from 1,999 Yuan (Rs 20,900, approx), with its India availability to be revealed in the coming weeks. What else is new about the Mi5? Well, for starters you’ve got the Snapdragon 820 processor powering the phone, which is paired with 3GB or 4GB RAM, depending on the model.
You’ll have to be content with USB Type-C port with the Mi5, which is predominantly going to be the go-to option for phone makers this year.
The 16-megapixel camera at the back gets 4-axis optical image stabilization (OIS) which, as per the company, will deliver shake-free images everytime.
Also, for the first time, Xiaomi has opted for a physical home button on the front that offers fingerprint scanner support. The phone is running on MiUi 7.0 version over Android 6.0 Marshmallow which is their latest UI version.
