People buying things by getting their eyes scanned or swiping their wrists on sensors is the stuff of sci-fi movies. And you can feel like you’re in one the next time you board the Delhi Metro.

Commuters will now be able enter stations by scanning wrist watches made by Austrian company LAKS. This comes after DMRC gave its nod to the payments watch maker.

Called Watch2Pay, these watches can be bought on Paytm. The new facility is expected to provide metro commuters a faster and more convenient access to the Delhi Metro network.

The commuter will simply have to touch the wristwatch to the screens of the AFC (Automatic Fare Collection) gates at the metro stations.

The sim-equipped watch can be recharged also, like any usual metro smart-card over the counter or through recharge card terminals.

In 2015, the same watch company had joined hands with Hyderabad Metro Rail to facilitate payment of fares.
