Video streaming platform YouTube is back online after a temporary worldwide outage on 17 October morning, which reportedly lasted almost 50 minutes. People from across the world started to notice that the video service’s website and mobile apps were non-functional around 7 am IST on Wednesday.
“We’re back,” the company tweeted, confirming that it resumed services later around 8:30 am IST. YouTube also requested users who are still facing issues to report it to them.
According to the website, Downdetector.in, US and South America were majorly affected by this outage, while some parts of Europe and Asia too faced minor issues.
The company, however, did not explain the reason behind the outage. But, it did acknowledge the issue and immediately put out a statement on Twitter after reports related to the issue started pouring in.
Earlier, when The Quint tried to access YouTube, the website did not load completely – just the page loaded, without the suggested videos and other media.
Some users posted pictures of an Error 500 (on desktop version) while the mobile version of the app showed a message reading “There was a problem with the network [503]”.
The #YouTubeDOWN was one of the top trending topics in India when YouTube’s services were down.
When a website or online service is down, it is usually back within the next few minutes. This long duration of an outage is a rare case.
YouTube was also down earlier in April, when some channels on the video streaming platform became inaccessible.
