TikTok will not feature any political ads on its platform, the company's VP for Global Business Blake Chandlee said in a blog post on Thursday, 3 October.
“We will not allow paid ads that promote or oppose a candidate, current leader, political party or group, or issue at the federal, state, or local level – including election-related ads, advocacy ads, or issue ads,” Chandlee said.
He said that the platform's primary focus is on entertaining and creating a genuine experience for its community.
“The app’s light-hearted and irreverent feeling that makes it such a fun place to spend time.”Blake Chandlee, VP, Global Business, ByteDance
Chandlee also said political ads is not something the company believes fits the TikTok experience.
Apart from the blog post, TikTok also issued a set of guidelines for posting ads on the platform.
