The debate for the best food delivery app is a never ending subject, but according to a latest survey-based report, Swiggy seems to have the better of Zomato in this segment. Some might say that Swiggy is the obvious choice, as Zomato, its nearest rival in the market, focuses on other services like restaurants bookings.

According to report from Kalagato, a data insights firm, Swiggy managed to grab over 36 percent market share from January to November in 2018.

It was surprising to see FoodPanda, bought by Ola few years back (now catering to other services) getting 32 percent share in the food delivery market. This meant, Zomato came third in the list with just 24 percent share of the pie to its name.

All these details have been published by Kalagato in its Food Industry Data, that was first publicly talked about earlier this month. Food delivery services have thrived with the changing consumer dynamics, who would rather prefer ordering-in, than heading out to grab a bite, especially during the weekdays.

Swiggy is likely to have benefitted from the massive amount of funding it has been getting over the past year or so. This ensured loyalty schemes like Swiggy Super was possible, offering lucrative discounts on food menu, by paying Rs 149 for a period of three months.

Zomato looked at the dining business, with its Gold membership, and reports suggest it has worked like a charm with those still keen on heading out to eat.

Out of all this, Ola’s FoodPanda seems to be the surprise package, but it’s certain that by the time 2019 report comes out, Ola’s share would have been eaten by both Swiggy and Zomato, with Uber Eats making its presence felt in some corners.

Swiggy is also moving into other services, with grocery and delivery of home-made meal also part of its folio with Daily.
