With the growing advent of smart speakers in the Indian market, music streaming platform Spotify is finally showing up on Google’s Home range of devices. This is the first smart speaker to feature the app, which is yet to make its way to Amazon’s Alexa ecosystem in the country.
More people are opting for streaming music rather than downloading illegally, mostly because of affordable data plans, and offering them on smart speaker was likely to be the next possible move.
Spotify is already available for PlayStation 3 and 4 users in the Indian market, with more device integration to happen in the coming months.
The music app needs to be linked to the user’s Google account, wherein the device will ask for linking access to that free or premium Spotify account. Here’s how you can do it right away.
How to Link Spotify Account to Google Home
- Open Google Home app and go to Settings
- Click on Manage Link Accounts and select Spotify
- Link your Spotify account to the email ID and give access to the speaker
- Set Spotify as your default music app on Google Home
- Say Ok Google and songs from Spotify will start playing
In addition to Google Home speaker, the music streaming app also works within Google Maps for mobile users as well. First introduced in October 2018, the integration has been done so that you don’t have to switch between both the apps, especially while driving on the roads in the country.
The platform also supports other Android-based devices like the standard Android smart TVs and even Chromecast, Google’s streaming rival to Amazon Fire TV Stick.
