Spotify on Tuesday announced the availability of its Premium Family plan in India at Rs 179 per month, giving users more ways to consume its content.
The plan gives family members, living under one roof, more choices to customise music streaming and podcasts, with ad-free, on-demand music listening experience, the company said in a statement.
Under the new plan users will have access to 450,000 podcast titles and 50 million tracks/songs. With this plan, Spotify lets one user get the monthly bill, who can pay for the rest of the members.
The family plan is an interesting addition for most streaming players, especially in a market like India. And Spotify’s plan is no different. Except that, it costs more than Apple Music and only marginally cheaper than YouTube Music.
The Spotify premium family plan, offers individual account users, to play their own music and podcasts.
In comparison to Spotify, Apple Music offers a similar plan, for support of 6 people, which has been priced at Rs 149 per month in the country. YouTube Music, on the other hand, costs Rs 189 per month for Android, and Rs 249 per month for iPhone users.
Spotify is offering three month free trial of the family sharing plan, after which 6 members of the family will be charged Rs 179 per month. This comes to about Rs 30 for each user.
So, if you’re wondering how the family plan works, this graph will help you understand that better:
Spotify needs all six members to be living in the same address. They can either sign up for an account, or use the existing one. Invite people to join the sharing plan, who’ll be asked to confirm the address and then get to enjoy premium service benefits of the platform.
Spotify competes with platforms like Gaana, Amazon Prime Music, Apple Music and YouTube Music among others in the India music streaming arena.
