An investigation has been launched into Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft by the UK’s Competitions and Markets Authority (CMA) into fears that the way their games service subscriptions are renewed is unfair, The Guardian reported.
The investigation, according to the report, will focus on the use of auto-renewals for online gaming contracts and the terms and conditions, cancellation and refund policies of these gaming services.
As part of the investigation, the CMA has written to Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft, seeking information into their online gaming services relating to the Nintendo Switch, Sony PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox, The Guardian report further said.
Apart from that the CMA is also calling on customers to get in touch and share their experience.
The investigations will look to determine if these contracts are unfair – if it’s too difficult to cancel or obtain a refund and if the auto-renewal procedure is transparent enough. It said that enforcement action can be taken if the companies have broken the consumer protection law.
