A security researcher and hacker Chris Roberts  has allegedly told the FBI that he accessed an airplane’s in-flight entertainment system and made it fly sideways.

Chris, the founder of One World Labs, was detained by the FBI in United States of America in April 2015. He was detained after a controversial tweet, where he claimed that he might hack into the domestic United Airlines flight he was flying on.

Chris told the FBI that he had repeatedly hacked into planes’ in-flight entertainment systems, and in one instance, used this to make the plane climb up and turn sideways.

After FBI’s interrogation, Chris’ two laptops, as well as hard drives and USB sticks were confiscated, WIRED reported.

The search warrant application details how Roberts hacked into the plane’s in-flight entertainment system to change its route.

Chris Roberts claimed that he he could get physical access to the in-flight entertainment systems by removing the cover of the Seat Electronic Box installed underneath passengers seats, according to the FBI.

The FBI added that Roberts used a modified Ethernet cable to connect his laptop to the IFE system, which gave him access to other airplane systems.

Chirs Roberts has not been arrested for his claims yet, but his belongings have been confiscated by the authorities.
