Samsung is not just about smartphones and now what they are trying to showcase is that they are a technology company.

Samsung has launched a new portable Solid State Drive (SSD) called the T1 in India. The SSD T1 will come in three storage options of 250 GB, 500 GB and 1 TB. It will also come with a three-year warranty and is available online on stores like Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal.

The USP of the Samsung SSD T1 is actually the size that it comes in. It is even smaller than a regular card-holder and weighs just 30 grams.

Samsung has used 3D V-NAND technology that helps it store massive amounts of data in a small form factor. The SSD sports vertical architecture that enables more memory cells to fit in a NAND chip in less space.

The portable SSD T1 comes with sequential read/write speeds of upto 450 megabytes per second (MB/s). The SSD T1 works best with a USB 3.0 and is backward compatible too.

Samsung says that the SSD T1 is susceptible to shocks and possible damage to stored data. For data security, the SSD comes with AES 256-BIT hardware encryption which is US military grade.

Prices start at Rs 12,000 for the 250 GB variant, Rs 18,000 for 500 GB and the 1 TB storage capacity will be available for Rs 35,000.
