Robots have been used in pyramids before, but none have been small or nimble enough to discover what’s at the end of the mysterious shafts at the pyramids of Giza.

One of the problems here is we have to climb in the shaft and be as light as possible. So 3D printing enables us to print things that are complex, but also strong and we can fit very weird and wonderful circuit boards inside them so it enables us to make the thing much better than we could do otherwise.
— Dr Robert Richardson, Director of Robotic Facility, Leeds University

The team is virtually ready to go — they’re just waiting for the green light from the Egyptian government. The fact this new technology may be able to answer what’s behind the shaft walls has sparked the imagination of many.
