I met Rahul Sharma, Founder of Yu Televentures, recently at the launch of the Yu Yunique and he seemed pretty convinced that high specification smartphones can be delivered in a budget.
The company sold out its entire batch in just 9 seconds during the first flash sale on Snapdeal.
Yes, it’s a budget phone, but is it really fantastic?
What’s Good?
The Yu Yunique offers the perfect blend of high-end specifications and a solid build quality. The Yunique looks exactly like the Yuphoria but lacks the metal frame. The use of plastic in the case of the Yunique is well done.
The phone has a compact screen size of 4.7 inches. It fits in the palm of your hand with ease and won’t make you miss a 5-inch display. The Yunique is 8.3mm thin and weighs a little over 120 grams. Overall, it’s one of the best looking budget smartphones in its class.
The display is full high-definition with very little reflectivity under direct light. The backlight is sufficient and the colour reproduction is also good. The display is sharp and crisp whether you’re playing a game or watching a video.
The phone uses a 1.2GHz processor by Qualcomm, which is a trusted one in the smartphone space. There are no lags and even the 1GB of RAM is sufficient on this entry level smartphone.
The Yunique comes loaded with the Android Lollipop operating system out of the box, but you can also get CyanogenMod OS. This is brilliant for users who like to tinker around with their smartphones.
With dual-SIM compatibility, it is a 4G LTE smartphone.
For camera lovers, the phone comes with an 8-megapixel primary snapper that’s quite efficient in both good light and low light conditions. The images are better than what you get on a Moto E IInd Gen and the Xiaomi Redmi 2.
What’s Bad?
The Yunique has only 8GB of internal memory. That’s a bit of a shame since 16GB would have been ideal. The phone has expandable storage but that’s an additional cost.
If you’re a selfie lover, the Yunique will disappoint you in low light conditions. The 2-megapixel camera up front is not very powerful and the images usually come out grainy.
The Yunique has a 2,000mAh battery, which lasts about 20 hours but that can be a bit of a stretch sometimes. There was scope for a bigger battery on the Yunique.
Why Buy it?
The Yu Yunique is been sold in a flash sale on Snapdeal and is a hot budget smartphone right now. It has everything to make it a safe bet.
With a well balanced processor, the latest Android Operating system and a good primary camera, the Yunique is one of the best 4G LTE entry level smartphones to go for in the market right now.
