Affordable 2-in-1 PCs in India have evolved in 2016 and it’s good to see that major brands like Lenovo and Dell have jumped onto the bandwagon.
To be able to buy a Windows convertible under Rs 20,000 that can last the mile would have been impossible in 2015, but this no longer holds true.
With the Miix 310, Lenovo gives us a product that wants to be in the reckoning with the rest. And for Rs 17,999, how attractive is it for consumers in this segment?
Pros:
- Decent display quality
- Multiple USB ports
- Windows 10 out-of-box
- Long battery life
- Value for money
Cons:
- Limited to basic PC usage
- Storage up to 64 GB only
- Does not support external drives
- Slightly bulky
What’s Good?
It’s hard to ask for a lot from a fully-functional Windows 2-in-1 for Rs 17,999 but for what it offers, we don’t have many things to crib about. The 10.1-inch display with 1280x800 pixels resolution does a decent job. Watching 1080 pixels content on the Miix 310 was a pleasant experience with subjects appearing sharp, and clear.
It’s good to see that even with a small-sized device, Lenovo offers multiple USB ports. These are placed on either side of the keyboard dock.
Getting an original Windows 10 with the Miix 310 is also worth pointing out. This way, you’ll get future Windows 10 updates from Microsoft without spending a penny. After all, the original Windows OS doesn’t come cheap.
The Miix 310, which runs on the Intel Atom processor, is capable of lasting long hours. On an average, we got over six hours on heavy usage, during which the system was connected to WiFi and mid-to-high brightness was maintained for watching movies, etc.
We’ve always had qualms about recommending a sub-20K priced Windows 2-in-1 before, but the many pros of the Lenovo Miix 310, make it a value-for-money buy for users with limited needs.
What’s Bad?
The display is reflective. The Intel Atom processor, with 2GB RAM, isn’t meant for high-performance.
You can open a couple of tabs on Chrome, but if you try watching a movie and surf the web simultaneously, chances are that the Miix 310 will be found wanting. Lenovo doesn’t see it being used as the primary device, and we agree. Also, the less said about the audio quality of speakers on the Miix 310, the better.
On the storage front, you get 32GB onboard, expandable up to 64GB only and strange as it is, you cannot use external drives with the Miix 310. Lenovo says by not supporting hard disks, they have managed to keep the memory processing use of the device in check.
Even though the Miix 310 weighs 510 grams, its dimensions tend to make it seem heavier than it should be.
Why Buy It?
For a secondary device, the Lenovo Miix 310 could be a reliable companion on-the-go with its long battery life.
For Rs 17,999, users with basic PC-like requirements can consider this Windows 10 2-in-1 PC but make sure you fit in the bracket of user that we have mentioned in this piece. This one is value for money, but comes with limited storage capability.
