Apple was all set to enter the Indian market with a bang with the iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus this festive season. But unfortunately, it turned out to be a phus pataka.

Apple has innovated a lot on the new iPhones for sure, but all that innovation comes at a starting price tag of Rs 62,000.

The phone that we and many like us were looking forward to was the bigger one – the iPhone 6s Plus.

But is it worth spending Rs 72,000 or, if you’re looking for bigger storage space, Rs 92,000 for an iPhone 6s Plus? Or would it make more sense to just pour some petrol on your hard earned money and burn it?

  • Price: Rs 72,000 (16GB), Rs 82,000 (64GB), Rs 92,000 (128GB)

What’s Good?

It’s an iPhone so there are plenty of good things about it. Apple uses Aluminium 7000 for the shell of the phone so that nothing like Bendgate happens this time around.

The big 5.5-inch Retina HD Display now comes with Apple’s force touch technology that the company calls 3D touch. The 3D Touch is an amazing feature that allows the display on the phone to sense the pressure of your touch to open up functions within an app or the phone. It basically lets you navigate within apps with a fewer number of taps.

Right now the inbuilt apps support the 3D touch function but what will be more interesting is how developers will take this technology forward. And with companies like Xiaomi already filing patents for a similar technology, it will see adoption on Android phones soon as well.

It works like a dream for checking mail, navigating through albums and also to take a quick selfie on the go.

The iPhone 6s Plus gets a camera upgrade from the iPhone 6 Plus as the phone now sports a 12-megapixel sensor that is capable of recording videos in 4K. The optical image stabilisation that you get on the 6s Plus also works brilliantly for shooting videos. The images are also pretty sharp and detailed.

For self-portraits, the iPhone 6s Plus gets a 5-megapixel Facetime HD camera and a retina flash, which makes your display bright if you’re clicking selfies in low light. It doesn’t make much of a difference but acts as a fill flash and gives you a great amount of detail in your selfies.

The phone runs on Apple’s custom designed 64-bit A9 chip with 2GB of RAM. Apple has successfully married its hardware and software in the past to give you a lag free experience and the iPhone 6s Plus is no different. The iOS 9 experience is the best on the 6s Plus.

What’s Bad?

If you consider the price tag of Rs 72,000 (16GB), Rs 82,000 (64GB) and Rs 92,000 (128GB), it’s a bomb to pay for any phone. And the iPhones aren’t diamond-studded to justify their nearly 1 lakh price tag.

Sure, Apple has to pay taxes and customs while retailing the phones in India, but that kind of price is just ridiculous. You can get your hands on a phone like the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 or the Google Nexus 6P for almost half that price.

The iPhone 6s Plus is big, but the 2,750 mAh battery on the phone really doesn’t last a day despite the low power mode on the new iOS 9.

Why Buy It?

The iPhone 6s Plus is a desirable gadget and there is no doubt about that. The Rose Gold iPhone 6s also makes a bold statement if you own one. It’s not your run-of-the-mill android smartphone and lands you in an exclusive club.

But at what cost?

One thing is for sure, in 2015, buying an Apple iPhone 6s Plus is the best way to burn your hard earned money. The illogical pricing can only be justified by an Apple fanboy/fangirl.
