Catapulted by its free internet offers, Reliance Jio has managed to capture more than 90 percent of the mobile data traffic share in India.

With its 4G-only network, Jio has managed to cover around 80 percent of the country with its services. Airtel at the same time, has only covered 30 percent area with its 4G LTE network. All this has been shared in a report by financial services firm Credit Suisse.

Data traffic Market Share in India:

  1. Reliance Jio - 94 percent
  2. Airtel - 2 percent
  3. Vodafone - 2 percent
  4. Idea Cellular - 2 percent

This clearly goes to show the strength and capability of Reliance Jio, which has invested over Rs 1,50,000 crore till date and they aren’t done yet. The slew of free internet offers, combined with the free voice calling for lifetime goodies has enabled Jio to add over 80 million users (as of 31 December 2016) in less than six months of its official bow.

And if they managed to roll out Rs 100 4G internet plan, then rest assured, Jio is going to touch its aimed figure of 100 million in the coming months.

After studying coverage of 2G/3G and 4G across the country, Credit Suisse claimed that Jio’s services do well in 70 percent of cities, while the trio of Vodafone, Airtel and Idea cover up only 10 to 30 percent of the areas.

The survey utilised image processing tools for mapping out areas that showed high-signal-strength in over 30 cities, using it as the basis to derive the coverage area of telecom operator.

The basis for Jio’s heavy traffic reading is directly linked to the Jio Welcome offer and then Happy New Year Offer. With these plans, users got 4GB and 1GB daily usage limit respectively.

Airtel Fastest With Mobile Internet Speed

Jio might have total domination with its internet traffic, but because of the freeloaders, their 4G speeds are stuck below the 10 Mbps mark. With its higher data plans, Airtel leads the chart for fast internet speeds, with 12 Mbps, as per the report. Funny enough, Jio is at par with Idea Cellular on 8 Mbps.

While these data will give enough encouragement to Reliance Jio, they’ll be advised to take these numbers with a pinch of salt. Wait till users are charged for the internet, giving them a clearer picture of their standing in the overall internet charts.
