Reliance Jio topped the chart of the 4G broadband service providers for the 11th straight month by recording a peak download speed of 25.6 megabit per second (mbps) for November 2017, data published by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) showed on Friday.

But the bigger surprise was that Vodafone, for the first time, became Jio’s closest competitor, registering a top download speed of 10 mbps. Airtel came at number 3 with speeds clocked at 9.8 mbps, and Idea Cellular wrapped up the list with 4G speeds recorded at 7 mbps, as per the TRAI data.

If the TRAI data is any indication, then Jio has been consistently improving its bandwidth speeds over the past few months. The telco had registered a top speed of 21.8 mbps in the month of October, which has been followed up with further improvement in the next month.

With respect to upload speeds, Vodafone overtook Idea Cellular in November by registering a speed of 6.9 mbps. Idea logged a peak upload speed of 6.6 mbps, followed by Jio, which registered a speed of 4.9 mbps. Airtel recorded an upload speed of 4 mbps.

Interestingly, the last reported data by TRAI had Idea topping the chart in October, by registering the highest upload speed of 7.1 mbps. So, clearly Vodafone has bumped its effort to match the competition, whichever way it possibly can.

Ideally, the download and upload speeds should either match up to each other, or be relatively close to each other in basic terms.

Looking at all these numbers, it’s quite evident that Jio has not only bettered its competition by offering more data at cheaper rates, but also offering users fast 4G speeds. No wonder users aren’t complaining about Jio, and its antics seem to have brought the telecom sector to its knees.
