Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is now offering users up to 270GB of internet data, going head on with telecom biggie Reliance Jio, which had famously kicked off the ongoing data and freebie extravaganza last year.

While Jio recently unveiled its latest plans that promise users 2GB per day, BSNL has managed to go one step ahead, serving up 3GB daily.

The entry-level BSNL plan is priced at Rs 333, and comes with 90GB of data for three months. Its latest set of plans directly rival Jio’s Dhan Dhana Dhan offer, that gives you up to 2GB data per day for 3 months.

Although BSNL has trumped its rival on the data front, one must understand that unlike Jio 4G, BSNL’s network is 3G-centric. This means that once your 3GB limit is over, internet speeds will plunge to a disappointing 80kbps.

When we first heard about BSNL going up against Jio with its new plans, we didn’t give it much hope. It seems though that the telecom operator, which is also keen on a merger with MTNL, is looking for a fresh start.

But are its latest plans good enough, especially with Airtel and Vodafone too pushing their luck?

Here’s how the Jio and BSNL plans compare:

Which One to Go For?

While BSNL’s plans have more data packed in, Jio’s 4G strength means that we don’t expect too many users to get sold on BSNL’s promises.

Yes, BSNL might have the advantage of wider network coverage (especially when Jio does not support 2G/3G). But going by the manner in which Jio has single-handedly transformed the telecom industry over the past year, and with mobile internet consumption at its peak, we say stick with – or go for – Jio.
