This has been a big Thursday for Reliance Jio and the Indian telecom sector, as the battle between incumbent operators and Jio reaches a new level.

Reliance Jio has conveniently placed its concerns with fellow operators, and the ongoing issue with call failures across multiple network. The issue of interconnect point has been repeatedly informed to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) but as things stand, the improvement, it seems has been fairly negligible.

This continuing pain point of call failure has somewhat forced the hands of Reliance Jio into taking strong decisions.

The telco has said that, if at all the issues related to interconnection are not resolved in the coming months and the service quality doesn’t improve, they would extend the period of free services.

Jio may extend the period of free services in case its subscribers are not able to get adequate experience of seamless connectivity across network due to interconnection congestion and the quality of service parameters are not as per the benchmarks desired by the Jio management.
Reliance Statement

By benchmarks, Jio hopes that the standard quality of five calls dropping out of a staggering 1,000, is achieved before its services become chargeable.

Call failure rates continue to be severe with over 75 calls failing out of every 100 call attempts on the networks of some of the operators. This is in breach of Quality of Service regulation that not more than five calls out of every 1,000 call attempts can fail.
Reliance Statement

Once again Reliance Jio has laid the blame of call failures on the incumbent operators, now it will be interesting to see what the other parties have to say about this.
