Now you can transfer money via feature phones. But there’s a catch.

Paytm has proclaimed itself the saviour of Indians hit by the demonetisation move. The company has managed to get over 2 lakh merchants on board, a move that is bound to help make them the go-to digital wallet for many users in the country.

While Paytm has, so far, been restricted to smartphone users, the digital wallet has now extended its services to feature phone users as well. Paytm has rolled out a toll-free number, which the company claims will help non-internet users in their quest to go cashless.

How Paytm works on Feature Phone:

• Register your mobile number with Paytm (via Android or iOS app)
• Set your 4-digit Paytm PIN on call
• Enter the recipient’s mobile number, amount and their Paytm PIN
• Transfer money from one Paytm wallet to another

While it is heartening to see Paytm reach out to users who do not have access to the internet, here’s the fine print on this particular offer:

Users need to have access to the Paytm app in order to register.

While users can send money via their feature phones, they will need to use the app every time they wish to add money to their wallets.
