Reliance JioPhone is unlikely to be the only smart feature phone to support WhatsApp this year. HMD Global has given a sly hint that the Nokia 8110 4G (yes, the banana phone) could be the next Kai OS phone to get the popular messaging app.
This was indicated by Juho Sarvikas, the chief product officer at HMD Global via this tweet which has got everyone excited. It’s worth noting that the Nokia 8110 4G is yet to launch in India, so were they waiting for WhatsApp to make the move? Looks quite likely.
Nokia 8110 4G was HMD Global’s successor to the Nokia 3310 which was launched at the MWC 2017 in Barcelona. Initially, this phone only supported 3G connectivity which was taken care with the launch of a 4G variant of the Nokia 3310.
The Nokia 8110 4G was expected to be launched around June in India but it has been a while since we’ve heard from the brand.
Juho has given a hint that WhatsApp on their Kai OS-powered Nokia 8110 4G could be announced very soon. This also raises our hopes of the phone launching in the Indian market in the coming months.
Nokia 8110 4G with its slider design, and a Banana-yellow shade on offer that runs on the operating system version made by KaiOS, who also are behind the smartness of JioPhone.
Interestingly, Nokia 8110 4G is a dual-SIM enabled device, that’ll let you connect via 4G VoLTE and share the data with others via Wi-Fi hotspot. You also get Bluetooth and GPS among other options. This one gets a price tag of 79 Euros (Rs 6,200 approx) which makes it costlier than the other smart feature phones.
