Netflix on Friday rolled out the "Smart Downloads" feature for iOS users to help them manage their downloaded titles on the app.

The feature which was made available for Android users in July 2018, deletes downloaded episodes after they have been watched and automatically downloads the next one. This feature was first announced in India, where people rank among the top downloaders of content on mobile phones for Netflix.

"Netflix iOS users can get the convenience of 'Smart Downloads' spending less time managing their downloads and more time watching," the company said in a statement.

While connected to the Wi-Fi, the opt-in feature now works on Android, Windows 10 and iOS devices. According to Netflix, if you’ve downloaded one or more episodes in a series, smart downloads will delete the episode you've just finished and automatically download the next episode in the series.

But it’s worth noting that the smart download will only work if you’re connected to Wi-Fi (saving your mobile data). Netflix also claims that the feature doesn’t eat into the storage space of your device.

Users also have the choice to opt-out of this feature, the company added.

Smart Downloads will work for both Netflix International Originals as well as the other series available on the platform.

In India, Netflix with over 5 million paid users goes up against Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video, but has a long way to go before it matches up with millions of its rivals.
