More broadband players in the country are entering the market with high-speed internet plans, and this time we have the (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited), more commonly known as MTNL.
The government-owned telco is now offering 1Gbps plans for its users in Delhi, which was first spotted by India Today on Monday.
The plan is available with lots of data, but MTNL has put a fair usage policy (FUP) in place, after which, the internet speeds come down to 5Mbps. MTNL is offering these plans at Rs 2,990 and Rs 4,990, bundled with free voice calls and modem as well.
But with the launch of Reliance JioFiber and Airtel, as well as ACT Fibernet providing 1Gbps plans, it seems MTNL is looking to sweeten the deal for its prospective customers.
For the first six months, these two 1Gbps plans will come bundled with up to 4TB and 8TB data bandwidth. After this, users will get 3TB and 6TB as their FUP limit, post which, the speeds come down.
The free voice calling is applicable for local and national calls, and you can make calls abroad at Re 1 per pulse (differs for each country). But strangely MTNL is offering this plan only in Delhi for now, Mumbai users will have to bide their time.
How it Compares with JioFiber?
Compared to this, JioFiber from Reliance is registering users for the 1Gbps plans at Rs 3,999 and Rs 8,499 but offering data limit of just 2.5TB and 5TB respectively.
Jio is charging one time payment of Rs 1,500 which is refundable deposit and Rs 1000, which is non-refundable deposit for installation of the device at your home.
However, JioFiber plans will be bundled with free access to a slew of OTT streaming apps, which MTNL doesn’t offer.
Airtel launched the Xstream Fibre plan with 1Gbps data speeds, which is priced at Rs 3,999 per month. Airtel is offering over 800GB more every month. But consumers will have to buy the Xstream Box separately, which is priced at Rs 3,999 for the new users. Existing Airtel subscribers can get it exchanged by paying Rs 2,449.
At the same time, ACT Fibernet 1Gbps internet plan costs Rs 2,999 with 3TB data usage made available.
