The recent Windows 10 Fall Creators Update finally gives Microsoft the ammunition to compete in the virtual reality and augmented reality domain. This update opens up the potential of Mixed Reality headsets by brands like Dell, Acer, Lenovo and Samsung, among others.
Mixed reality (that offers virtual and augmented reality on the same platform) headsets will line-up against the existing products, like Facebook’s Oculus and HTC’s Vive, which are priced on the higher side. But with a mixed reality headset, you’ll get a comparatively cheaper product that serves to work in the same direction.
The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update can be experienced on a wide variety of Windows 10 PCs and on a range of Windows Mixed Reality headsets available for the first timeYusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President, Windows and Devices Group
And that’s not all, here are all the big updates that Windows 10 users can expect to see in the coming weeks.
How to Download the Fall Creators Update?
All Windows 10 users will get the update in a phased manner. You could either wait for Microsoft to automatically push it to your device, or head over to its Software Download page and do it manually. The update is sure to take some time (heavy size download), so make sure you keep the laptop/PC fully charged while the update is in progress.
Bump in Performance, Battery Life & More
In addition to the debut of mixed reality headsets, the Fall Creators Update promises to boot up to the login screen 13 percent faster than the previous edition. The battery life on the version also sees a 5 percent improvement, which means, you can watch more movies or stream videos online for a longer duration.
For safety measures, the Fall Creators Update adds a new layer of security, updating and tracking any malware or virus sighted on your device.
Other than that, Windows Defender has been improved to tackle issues such as ransomware or any hazardous exploits that have come to light in recent times. For users with neurodegenerative disease, the update features Eye Control, which lets you control and operate the mouse with his/her eyes.
3D Touch for Office, Cross Device Content
This update also lets you experience your regular textual or visual content from Microsoft Office in 3D avatar, adding a different dimension to your notes or presentation.
You can even copy and paste content (even photos and Gifs) from Windows 10’s clipboard to Android or iOS devices, thereby enhancing your PC-to-mobile work output drastically. The version gets minor design changes as well that’ll be effective for cross-device interaction.
