Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, has outlined a new mission for the social media network he co-founded. He says he wants to "bring the world closer together". Zuckerberg was speaking at the Facebook Communities Summit in Chicago – a gathering of administrators of various Facebook groups.
The social media network, which now has close to 2 billion users, wants to change the online behaviour of its users using artificial intelligence. Facebook will be able to track users behaviour online and suggest meaningful groups for people to join.
Zuckerberg says that society is still divided, and it's not just Facebook's mission to connect people as it has been doing, but it is also important to bring them closer with 'meaningful communities'.

Our full mission statement is: Give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. That reflects that we can’t do this ourselves, but only by empowering people to build communities and bring people together.Mark Zuckerberg, CEO, Facebook
Facebook will be rolling out new tools for group administrators, making it easier for them to manage their groups. Some tools like insights into join requests and times of the day when members are most active will be part of the new roll out. Administrators will also get tools to manage requests by location and gender, as well as be able to instantly deal with spam and malicious posts.
